The following case studies outline key projects completed by idealight principals. Due to specific contractual obligations, some company names are kept confidential.


Project: Digital Strategy and Fundraising
Sector: Entertainment

Voice Pictures retained idealight to develop the digital strategy and business plan for an interactive gaming portal and community targeting kids from 5-12 based on its feature film starring Chevy Chase and Kari Matchett �Goose on the Loose�. Initial funding had been provided through grants from TeleFilm Canada and Bell New Media Fund and the Company needed a third party to guide the implementation of the business model, review the development strategy and make a recommendation whether to continue with the existing partner or seek a new one, and creating a financial model and strategy for securing new funding from grants and third party investors.

idealight re-wrote the development plan and recommended a local web development partner to build the portal who subsequently took a vested interest in developing and launching a series of games that ultimately saved the company over $150,000 in development costs. idealight also contributed to securing additional funding to continue development of the project.


Project: Acquisition out of Bankruptcy
Sector: Media - Content Syndication

French Company was a successful content syndication company based in Paris. The Company had secured a commitment for a significant round of funding from a reputable European VC firm but the deal collapsed at the last minute forcing the company into bankruptcy. An idealight principal was retained by a US news syndication company and competitor to the French company to acquire the technology. Stepping into the process within 24 hours of notification and managed a challenging and time sensitive due diligence and buyout process involving the French bankruptcy system, the principal completed the acquisition of the technology and the sale to the US competitor.


Project: Buyout, refinancing and re-launch of R&D company
Sector: Biotech

French Biotechnology Company was an R&D company based in France that had developed a unique, patented technology to convert liquids to very fine particles. The Company was undercapitalized and the technology had not been commercialized. One of idealight�s principals, acting as part of a US-based private equity team, acquired the Company from the founders, recapitalized it, and developed a plan to commercialize and re-launch the technology. Developing the plan required a detailed market study of the various applications for the technology ranging from needle-free injection systems, military applications, to commercial air treatment systems. A conclusion was made to pursue the air treatment sector. After choosing its new market, the company was re-launched in the United States with an idealight principal and other members of the private equity team stepping into operational roles while the company was incubated, product development completed and beta clients secured. A detailed business plan including financial forecasts, product development plan, and staffing plan were developed. One of idealight�s principals served on the Board of Directors and as interim CFO.


Project: Launch of Digital Division for Traditional Media Company
Sector: Media -Broadcasting

The Company was a large, publicly traded broadcasting corporation with a broad US presence that wanted to leverage its offline presence with a complementary online strategy. An idealight principal, as one of the incubators of the broadcasting business, undertook the entire initiative, beginning with writing a business plan, developing a financial forecast, securing board approval and funding and ultimately launching an Internet Services subsidiary for the company which entailed local portals and other services that leveraged the online/offline presence of the company and generated significant incremental revenue.
